To promote research, education, and technology transfer for microbiology and biotechnology applications to the benefit of the environment, agriculture, and human health.
To fulfill this mission, School of Biosciences will:
- Recruit and support the success of outstanding scientists and engineers in biotechnology and the life sciences.
- Provide a “state of the art” infrastructure that becomes a focal point for excellence in biotechnology and microbiology research.
- Establish interdisciplinary research partnerships within the department, among IMS group of institutions, various industries and corporate communities, and with other centers of excellence in biotechnology and the microbiology across the nation.
- Attract large, interdisciplinary, multi-institutional grants and research contracts.
- Serve as a liaison with state and central government agencies to develop support for the continued growth of the life sciences enterprise in School of Biosciences.
- Create new business opportunities and new jobs by supporting technology transfer and by connecting research and education with economic development and workforce preparation.
- Enrich the academic excellence of the School of Biosciences and other departments through programs that support expanded faculty and student opportunities.
- Offer educational and technical assistance services to biotechnology, microbiology communities, schools, and organizations that support improved understanding of biotechnology and the microbiology.
